University of Texas Longhorns Beanies and Boots

I'm trying to get more into making stuff themed for sports teams, so I started with what I like best.... the UT Longhorns!

Beanie

The beanie was made with my General Beanie Pattern, I used I Love This Yarn's Burnt Pumpkin for the main color with a white as a border. (Adding the Longhorn Applique shown below)

Booties

I used the pattern from my previous post Cowboy Boots, just inserting the yarn that I used for this set and putting on a star applique (posted below).

Longhorn Applique (originally found it here, edited to make more sense)
I used size G hook for the one on the beanie and size H hook for the one on the diaper cover.

Chain 4, join to form ring
Round 1: Chain 1, SC in ring 8 times, join
Row 2: Chain 1, SC in first 3, Chain 1, turn
Row 3: Chain 1, SC across row, Chain 1, turn
Row 4: 2 SC in first, SC in next, 2 SC in last, Chain 1, turn
Row 5: 2 SC in first, SC in next 3, 2 SC in last, turn
Row 6: Chain 3, slip st in second Chain from hook, Chain 2, skip next Chain, SC in each SC across, turn
Row 7: Chain 3, slip st in second Chain from hook, Chain 2, skip next Chain, SC in next 7, turn
Row 8: Chain 11, slip st in second Chain from hook and in next 9, slip st into next SC, SC 5, slip st in next, turn
Row 9: Chain 11, slip st in second Chain from hook and in next 9, slip st into next SC, SC 3, slip st into next
Finish off leaving a long tail to sew onto beanie



Star Applique (originally found it here)
I used a size D hook.

Chain 2
Round 1: 5 SC in second chain from hook; join with slip st to form circle (5 SC)
Round 2: (Chain 3, slip st in second chain from hook, SC in next chain, slip st in next SC one the previous round) repeat around, making 5 points
Finish off, leaving long tail for sewing onto booties.

Loafers (with Appliques)

I've been getting into making booties a lot lately and found pattern for loafers and thought they were cute! So, of course, I made them...I found the pattern originally here... but, as always, I have edited it to make it a little better. Enjoy!

Loafers
Used worsted yarn in White & Black
Used G size hook
Approximate size: 9-12 months

Sole
(use white)
Chain 13
Round 1: SC in second chain from hook and in next 10, 3 SC in last, opposite side of stitches: SC in next 10, 2 SC in last, join with sl st in first SC
Round 2: Chain 1, SC in same as joining, SC in next 10, 2 SC in next 3, SC in next 10, 2 SC in next 2, join
Round 3: Chain 1, SC in same as joining and in next, SC in next 9, HDC in next 2, 2 SC in next 5, HDC in next 2, SC in next 9, 2 SC in next 2, SC in next 3, join
Round 4: Chain 1, SC in same as joining, 2 SC in next 2, SC in next 11,HDC in next 3, (2 HDC in next, HDC in next 3) twice, SC in next 13, 2 SC in next 2, SC in next 3, join
Round 5: Chain 2, (working in back loops only:) HDC in each stitch around, join round and fasten off.

Side Piece
(use black & start at center on heel)

Ankle Piece

Row 1: Skip 33 stitches after where you last finished off, chain 1, SC in same stitch, HDC in next 28, SC in next, chain 1, turn
Row 2: Decrease across first 2 stitches, Sc in next 7, (decrease) twice, SC in next 4, (decrease) twice, SC in next 7, decrease, fasten off

Toe Piece
(use black)
Chain 2
Round 1: 6 SC in second chain from hook, join
Round 2: Chain 1, 2 SC in next 6, join
Round 3: Chain 1, (2 SC in next, SC in next) 6 times, join
Round 4: Chain 1, (2 SC in next, SC in next 2) 6 times, join
Row 5: Chain 1, SC in next 8, turn
Row 6: Chain 2, HDC in first 7, 2 HDC in last, fasten off leaving a long end for sewing onto bootie

Finishing
Sew ends of Rows 5-6 of Toe Piece to ends of Rows 1-2 of Ankle piece, then sew the remaining stitches of Toe Piece onto the bootie.

Skull Applique
(use white & F hook)
Chain 4
Row 1: SC in second chain from hook and in next 2, turn
Row 2: Chain 1, 2 SC in next, SC in next, 2 SC in next, turn
Rows 3-4: Chain 1, SC in each across, turn
Row 5: Chain 1, skip first stitch and SC in next 2, decrease in next, fasten off leaving a long end for sewing onto bootie
Finishing: With Black, embroider eye socket on skull with french knot stitch. Sew skull onto bootie. Embroider crossbones in white with running stitches and french knots at the ends of each.






I love making boy version AND a girl version of all the things I make, to even things out. So, I made these…

Of, course, you follow the pattern above the same way just replacing the black with pink. And, then I put my Mickey Mouse applique on them!

Mickey Mouse Applique
(originally found here as a coaster pattern, I modified it)
Used size 10 Black crochet thread and size 7 hook

Head
Chain 2
Round 1: 8 SC in 2nd chain from hook, join
Round 2: Chain 1, 2 SC in each around, join
Round 3: Chain 1, (SC in next, 2 SC in next) 7 times, join
Round 4: Chain 1, (SC in next 2, 2 SC in next) 7 times, join. Finish off, leaving long end for sewing onto bootie

Ear (make 2)
Chain 2
Round 1: 8 SC in 2nd chain from hook, join
Round 2: Chain 1, 2 SC in each around, join

Cowboy Boots

Living in Texas, you see people with cowboy boots all the time, it's just part of the fashion. And, even toddlers and babies have them. So, for one of my most recent project, I decided to make some!!!

I got the pattern for free online here. So, I DO NOT claim this pattern as my own. I also have corrected it a little to make it look a little better. Enjoy!

Cowboy Boots
Material: Worsted yarn in Brown and in Gold
Hooks: F hook for 3 1/2" sole (appx. 0-3 months), G hook for 4 1/2" sole (appx. 3-6 months), or the large directions that are in parenthesis with G hook for 5" sole (appx. 9-12 months)

ch=chain
sc=single crochet
sl st= slip stitch
hdc=half double crochet

Sole
Round 1: With Brown, ch 12 (14), sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 7 (9), hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, 5 hdc in end ch. Now, working down opposite side of stitches, 2 hdc in next ch, hdc in next, sc in next 7 (9), 2 sc in next
Round 2: 2 sc in first sc of last round, sc in next 10 (12, (2 sc in next, sc in next) 3 times, sc in next 9 (11), 2 sc in next, sc in next
Round 3: 2 sc in next, sc in next 11 (13), (2 sc in next, sc in next) twice, (sc in next, 2 sc in next) twice, sc in next 11 (13), 2 sc in next, sc in next, sl st in first sc of round, ch 1, turn
Round 4: Working in back loops only: sc in each stitch around, sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

Boot
Round 5: Find the center stitch  of the heel of the sole (should be where you left off), and center 12 sc stitches in brown. Fasten off.
Round 6: Join Gold yarn in middle of last round (at the middle point of the heel), sc in each stitch around
Round 7: sc in next 14 (16), skip next, hdc in next, skip next, dc in next 2, dc next 2 stitches together, dc in next 2, skip next, hdc in next, skip next, sc in next 13 (15)
Round 8: sc in next13 (15), skip next, sc in next, skip next, sc in next 3, skip next, sc in next, skip next, sc in next 12 (14)
Round 9: sc in next 12 (14), (skip next, sc in next) 4 times, sc in next 10 (12)
Round 10: sc in next 6 (7), sl st in next 5 (6), skip next, sc in next 3, skip next, sl st in next 5 (6), sc in next 5 (6), sc in first stitch of round. Fasten off.
Round 11: With Brown, and working in back loops only: join yarn on stitch that you left off on, sc in joining stitch and in next 10 (12), skip next, sc in next 2, skip next, sc in next 9 (11)
Round 12: sc in next 22 (for largest size, 24 sc, skipping 2 stitches somewhere at toe)
Rounds 13 & 14: sc in each sc around
Round 15: 2 sc in next, sc in next 11 (12), 2 sc in next, sc in 9 (10), sc in first sc of round
Rounds 16-18: sc in next 24
Round 19: sc in next 4 (5), hdc in next, skip next, dc in next, 4 dc in next, dc in next, skip next, hdc in next, sc in next 5 (6), hdc in next, skip next, dc in next, 4 dc in next, dc in next, skip next, hdc in next, sc in next, sl st in first stitch of round. Fasten off.

Edging
Round 20: With Gold yarn: join in same stitch you finished on, sc in that stitch and each stitch around....with 2 sc in the second dc of each of the 4 dc groups from last round.
Round 21: Skip first sc of last round, sc in each stitch....with 2 sc in second sc  of each of the 2 sc groups from the last round. Fasten off.

Decoration on Front
Row 1: With Gold yarn: ch 4, sc in second ch from hook and in next 2 ch, ch 1, turn
Rows 2-3: sc in each 3 stitches across, ch 1 turn
Row 4: (sc, hdc) in first stitch, 3 dc in next, (hdc, sc) in last stitch. Fasten off, leaving a long end to sew onto boot.

Decorations on Sides (make 2)
With Gold: ch 25 (30). Fasten off, leaving a long end to sew onto boot.

Finishing
Use picture as a guide and sew decorations onto boot. Now you're ready to make your other boot!
