Raphael wears Red
Leonardo wears Blue
Donatello wears Purple
Michelangelo wears Orange
Of course they have to be made with extra rows to account for the masked part. So, because of this, they do look a little too long in the pictures....but they look good when put on!
(Every pattern that I currently have available to download is in Word format and is downloadable on my Scribd. If I do not have a pattern there, then I do not have a downloadable version of it. Please do not e-mail me with requests of patterns, as I most likely will not even check my e-mail. I apologize for this but I have a full-time job now and no longer keep up with the pattern requests. Masked Beanie
(I always turn my beanies inside out after completing, to use that side as the “right side”, because I feel it always comes out looking better on that side)
***Note on my beanie patterns: I've realized that I had learned the DC stitch wrong, so my beanie pattern was done to the scale of my wrong stitch instead (which is really a long-DC stitch). So, you might want to do long-DC stitches, OR add a row or two to the bottom of the beanie (in this case: before the row with the Chain stitches that make the eyeholes). Also, my "Chain 2" NEVER counts as a DC in any of my patterns.***
Stitch Abbreviations:
CH= Chain
SC= Single Crochet
DC= Double Crochet
SL ST= Slip Stitch
ST= Stitch(es)
You will need size 4 Worsted weight yarn in Green & in whatever you choose for you bandanna color. (I used I Love This Yarn in Jelly Bean. And in Red, Royal Blue, Orange, & Grape for my bandannas). I usually use the size H hook on everything, but I also work my stitches pretty tightly. (Just remember that changes hook changes the size of your work)

Can this be made without the eyes? I love the ties, but want to crochet the eyes on....if that makes sense, new at crocheting
ReplyDeleteI bet that if you have the person who you are making it for available, you can do some test fits as you go. Then just don't make the holes for the eyes, but just continue the pattern as you were doing before the eyes part. I'm sure that this could be folded up on the forehead to be like a "sweat band" and it wouldn't have to cover the eyes at all.
DeleteYes, I understand. If you want to go that route with the beanie, I would do a stripe of color somewhere in the beanie (towards the end, depending on your beanie size you could change the placement of this stripe) and then place eye appliques on top of where this stripe is. I make a striped beanie (it has a thick stripe towards the bottom, you can see it on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/butterflyscreationstx ) and can tell you which rows I stripe for which sizes of my beanies, if you'd like to let me know what size you are making. And, you could just add the bandanna straps at the back of the beanie where you have this stripe at! I hope this helps!
DeleteThis would use my General Beanie Pattern (the one before the eyehole part is created), but with the stripe of color added into it.
DeleteI think that we might need some clarification on what you mean by a "long dc stitch". I'm not really sure what that means. I looked it up on eHow.com and the stitch that was described there sounds like the same as a regular dc stitch to me, just it can be made longer by going into a stitch farther down than just the one below. I am aware of another stitch called the "extended" single crochet, so maybe the one you do is similar to that?
ReplyDeleteI use the Long-DC stitch that RedHeart states on some of their patterns, for example on this one: http://www.redheart.com/files/patterns/pdf/WR1846.pdf . They explain it on there step by step.
Delete" *yo and draw up a loop in next sc, yo and draw through 1 loop on hook, [yo and draw through 2 loops] twice* – long-dc made"
DeleteThank you! That's what I thought you meant. It is similar to the "extended" single crochet.
DeleteYou might want to make a swatch so we can get the right size, and also provide a reg dc pattern. I have made 2 of the sizes and have to go to a g hook, and that is still a little to big, and I am a little tight on my crochet. You must be super tight! Lol. All in all, this will make a great hat for cancer kids. But please consider my suggestions.p
ReplyDeleteGreat pattern! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat pattern! Is it okay to sell a finished product and link back to you as credit for the pattern? I would like to make some to sell for Halloween. Please advise. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYes, that is always ok! Actually, designers cannot tell you that you cannot sell your finished products via US Copyright Laws. If the pattern was created by a US citizen in the US, then they only own rights to the actual pattern. Anything you create using the pattern is completely your own to do with what you want. I hope that helps!
Delete(If anyone gave you any problems, any lawyer would tell you this, you could get one to write a letter to the pattern's creator if they tried to test you on it.)
I just made one of your beanies tonight! It turned out just perfect with regular double crochet. I want to tell you how happy I am with your method of the "join". It is absolutely perfect. I've never been happy with any of my work where I had to join until doing this pattern tonight. It just doesn't show, look out of place, or have a gap! Thank you so much for sharing this pattern! I'm one happy hooker !!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm glad you liked it!
DeleteI agree with Sharri on your join. I also do a decrease stitch in the previous join stitch before the current rows join stitch, really getting rid of the gap.
DeleteLisa
I have made 1 in every tmnt color (3 preschool and 1 toddler). I love it!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! Great pattern!

I love this pattern, however being new to crochet I still get a little confused. Is this pattern written in UK or American terms? I know that a single crochet in American terms is the same as a double crochet in UK terms. I think this may help with some of the confusion. I would love to make this pattern for my nephew for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteSorry for the late reply, I've had issues with my computer crashing. But, it is in American terms.
DeleteHi, I am so confused about what you mean about the long dc as ooposed to the regular dc. Also I dont undertand what you mean about turning the hat inside out. Thank you, I really want to make this hat. Antoinette
ReplyDeleteIf you look up in the comments, I have explained the Long-DC stitch in depth!
DeleteThe way you create the beanie makes the part that is the inside as you are making it is actually considered to be the "right" side, so turning it inside out after weaving in the ends makes your "right" side be on the outside (where you want it to show).
I also just wanted to ask about the pattern. I made one last night using the long dc stitch and it is huge. Should I just use regular dc?
ReplyDeleteYes, you might want to use regular DC, or even HDC if needed. The reason I post this pattern for free instead of selling it is because I made it to work for my own tension/stitching, so I know it may require some work for it to be perfect for others. I do not know how to do gauges (since I crochet too tightly for them to ever work for me), but two rows tall on my beanies come out to about an inch and about 4 stitches across also come out to about an inch for my particular tension/stitch. Hope that helps!
DeleteJust finished a Leonardo one! Turned out lovely !a little boy called Graeson is going to be thrilled to get it!! LOL love the pattern!! Thank you and I shall certainly give the credit to you!! Easy pattern to follow!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a p.s. I did double crochet for hT but did half double crochet for mask!! Plus the one row single crochet!
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern! Thank you for sharing. For some reason, every time I make one, it comes out way too big. I made a 9-12 month beanie for a 9 month old and it fit me. I'm 26. So I made a newborn-3 month size and it fit him perfectly. Am I doing something wrong? I saw your note about the long DC stitch and can't find anything explaining it. Maybe this is causing the size mix ups? Otherwise, it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this pattern! I have made about 6 of these hats all for 3-5 year olds. Although i did have to use the 0-3 month pattern. I figured this out when the first hat i made turned out so big it wouldnt even fit me (30)lol. The 0-3 mos.turns out great for toddlers though so i guess it's all in the tension! I find it really simple to modify due to all the different age patterns you provided so thanks! This hat is awesome!
